The Magic of Trees

The Magic of Trees

1. Forest Bathing – Shinrin Yoku

You are immersing yourself in the forest. This is Shinrin Yoku—forest bathing.
Surprisingly, what we have always considered a simple “walk in the woods,” practiced for generations, is said to be a Japanese concept from 1982. In Japan, forest bathing is even officially prescribed for health reasons. The Japanese Ministry of Forestry coined the term Shinrin Yoku in 1982, which translates to “bathing in forest air.”

2. Killer Cells Against Cancer

Studies have shown that a walk in the forest positively stimulates the immune system and provides effective protection against the stresses of modern life, including stress and depressive moods. Inhaling the essential oils released by trees strengthens the immune system. The terpenes in forest air stimulate the body to produce killer cells that combat cancer. Pure oxygen enhances this effect—the purer the air, the greater the sense of well-being.

3. Tips for an Intense Forest Bathing Experience

The gentle effects of trees and nature unfold best when you take your time. Forest bathing is about enjoying the moment, not just being active.

  1. Four hours of forest bathing, covering about five kilometers, is recommended for stress relief. A full day in the forest is ideal.

  2. To boost the immune system, a minimum of two to three days is advised.

  3. Take breaks: Forest bathing should not be exhausting. Find a comfortable spot, absorb the soothing greenery, listen to the soft sounds of flora and fauna, and embrace the calming atmosphere.

  4. It is a personal experience: Choose the location and duration according to your own needs and preferences.

  5. Bring food and drinks.

I Walked in the Woods

I walked in the woods,
Wandering alone,
Seeking nothing,
That was my tone.

In the shade, I saw
A little flower so bright,
Sparkling like stars,
Like eyes full of light.
