Lowering Blood Sugar Levels
An elevated blood sugar level can be a precursor to diabetes – a disease that not only impacts life but can also shorten it. For Type 2 diabetes, proper nutrition and regular exercise are key to maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. However, supplements can also have the potential to lower blood sugar. DiaB contains alpha-cyclodextrin and is a powder for making a cyclodextrin-containing drink. Consuming alpha-cyclodextrin (ACD) as part of a starchy meal helps to reduce the rise in blood sugar after the meal.
What is Alpha-Cyclodextrin?
The European Union Commission has confirmed the health-promoting effect of alpha-cyclodextrin with Regulation (EU) No. 536/2013 (Health Claim). As a result, products containing alpha-cyclodextrin can claim its blood sugar-lowering effect. Scientific studies confirm the blood sugar-lowering effect of alpha-cyclodextrin. Alpha-cyclodextrin is a ring-shaped sugar that naturally forms during the enzymatic breakdown of starch. It is used as a soluble fiber in beverages, breakfast cereals, or baked goods. Lipophilic molecules, such as fat or starch molecules, slip into the hollow space of alpha-cyclodextrin, where they are bound and remain undetected by the digestive enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract. These molecules are neither broken down nor digested in the human intestine. They do not enter the body but are instead passed through the digestive system and excreted. To achieve this effect, it is ideal to consume 10 percent of the starch content of a meal in DiaB. For example, for a meal with 50 grams of starch, it is recommended to take 5 grams of DiaB (alpha-cyclodextrin). The appropriate amount is dissolved in water and consumed before meals.
