Mustard Flour Compress
Mustard is commonly associated with bratwurst, but its medicinal properties are less well-known. Mustard wraps or mustard foot baths have been valued for centuries, especially for treating conditions like bronchitis. When mustard seeds are ground, the mustard oil glycosides come into contact with certain enzymes and are converted into mustard oil, which is primarily responsible for the healing effects of the plant. Mustard oil is known for being skin-irritating, which promotes local blood circulation. Additionally, mustard oil has been shown to have antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Both black and white mustard seeds can be used for medicinal purposes, with white mustard being somewhat milder in its effects.
