Potato Compress

Even in grandmother’s time, potato compresses were a well-known and traditional home remedy. The warm application of boiled and mashed potatoes is said to relieve pain and ease tension. That’s why it is commonly used for sore throat, cough, and muscle tension. The potato compress helps to loosen mucus and has pain-relieving properties.

Ingredients

To prepare the compress, you will need:

  • 2-3 boiled potatoes (with skin on)
  • 1 thin linen cloth
  • 1 towel as an inner wrap
  • 1 outer cloth or blanket

Preparation & Application

  1. Mash the boiled potatoes onto the linen cloth to form a flat layer.
  2. Wrap the inner towel around the potato layer.
  3. Place the compress on the affected area and secure it with the outer cloth.
  4. Caution: The compress can be very hot—let it cool slightly before applying!

Shelf Life

Prepared fresh and used immediately.

Usage

  • Duration: Once daily for 20-30 minutes.
  • Aftercare: Rest for 30 minutes after removal.
  • Tip: Rub the area with lavender oil after use.
