Ginger-Lemon Syrup:
A Superhero Against Viruses & Bacteria
Ginger is a true superhero among home remedies! The vitamin C in lemons strengthens the immune system, helping the body fight off pathogens. Honey also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Together, ginger, lemon, and honey form a powerful trio for preventing colds. Vitamin C, magnesium, and iron help eliminate viruses and bacteria. The spiciness of ginger warms the body from within, while its essential oils work antibacterially, clear the airways, and soothe coughs. Since the most valuable vitamins and anti-inflammatory compounds are found just beneath the peel, it’s best to boil the ginger with the skin on and use organic produce.
Ingredients
- 300 g fresh organic ginger
- 200 g honey
- 700 ml water
- Juice and zest of 5 organic lemons
Preparation
- Wash the ginger and cut it into small pieces without peeling.
- Thinly peel the lemons, removing only the yellow outer layer, which contains essential oils.
- Juice the peeled lemons and mix the juice with honey. Set aside.
- Place the ginger pieces and lemon zest in a pot with 700 ml of water and simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.
- Strain the liquid and discard the boiled ginger and lemon zest.
- Allow the syrup to cool, then mix it with the lemon-honey juice.
- Pour into a clean glass bottle and store in the refrigerator.
Shelf Life
Several weeks when refrigerated.
Usage
Drink a small amount every morning, either pure or diluted with warm water or tea. Since vitamin C is sensitive to heat, avoid adding the syrup to liquids above 60°C. Caution: The syrup can be very spicy. One tablespoon per day is enough. It tastes great in tea, and the warmth is especially soothing for the throat.
