One prominent example is the world’s most famous ice mummy.\u00a0<\/span>“\u00d6tzi”<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0carried various mushrooms such as the “tinder fungus” and the “birch polypore” with him as his medicine cabinet, and\u00a0<\/span>Abbess Hildegard von Bingen<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0also valued the health benefits of mushrooms in the Middle Ages. She used them in her therapies and divided them into two groups: those that grow on trees and those that grow on the ground. A recommendation from her in the 12th century has been handed down: “Mushrooms that grow on living and felled trees are quite suitable for consumption and sometimes also for medicine. Those from the walnut tree help against worms, those from the beech tree against colds and stomach mucus, those from the willow tree against lung and spleen ailments as well as against mucus in front of the eyes, and those from the pear tree are good against scabies.\u201d It is interesting to note that the healer\u2019s research results agree with those of\u00a0<\/span>Traditional Chinese Medicine<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(TCM). This is how she described the healing effect of\u00a0<\/span>Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi).<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Medicinal and vital mushrooms have been becoming increasingly popular in European culture for several decades. Demand is supported by many\u00a0<\/span>scientific studies<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0that have been carried out in recent years. The results paint a consistent picture: mushrooms contain substances that can be used for\u00a0<\/span>well-being<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0,\u00a0<\/span>prevention, and<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>complementary medicine<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0.
